"RTV" stands for Room Temperature Vulcanization, indicating that the rubber cures at ambient temperature without the need for heat. This type of silicone rubber typically consists of a base compound and a curing agent that are mixed together in a specific ratio. Once mixed, the silicone is poured or brushed onto the original model or pattern, where it flows into all the details and contours. After curing, which usually takes a few hours, the silicone rubber forms a flexible and durable mold that can be used repeatedly to cast replicas of the original model in materials such as plaster, resin, or even metal.
