Fresh Button Mushroom

A matured basidiocarp (fruit body) is whitish in colour and consists of thick short stipe with an annulus. The stipe supports the pileus which appears as a hat like expansion. On the underside of the pileus, a number of radiating gills or lamella are present which are pink when young but purple-brown when mature. Button mushrooms are a good source of vitamins such as B vitamins and vitamin D and minerals such as selenium and potassium, as well as antioxidants. Button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) are a common and widely consumed mushroom variety. Button mushrooms taste alternately earthy, meaty, and brothy, a combination of flavors known as umami, though their flavor is comparatively mild.
