Pomegranate Plants

The pomegranate plant is a small, deciduous shrub or small tree that grows to about 10-12 feet tall. It has glossy, narrow leaves and bright, orange-red flowers with a trumpet shape. These flowers bloom in summer and attract pollinators like bees. After pollination, the plant produces round, leathery fruits, which are typically about the size of a grapefruit. The fruit has a tough outer rind that can be red or yellow, and inside is filled with juicy, ruby-red seeds, called arils, that have a sweet-tart flavor. Pomegranate plants thrive in warm, sunny climates and need well-drained soil to grow. They are drought-tolerant once established but still need regular watering during dry periods. The pomegranate is often grown for its fruit, which is eaten fresh or used in juices, sauces, and desserts. The plant is also valued for its ornamental beauty and bright, showy flowers.
