Product overview
The mahogany tree is a tall, hardwood tree known for its beautiful, reddish-brown wood. It can grow up to 150 feet tall in the wild, but usually around 50-80 feet in cultivation. The tree has large, dark green, glossy leaves that are pinnate (feather-like) and grow in clusters. It produces small, white or pink flowers that bloom in large clusters. These flowers are followed by woody, pod-like fruits that contain several seeds.
Mahogany trees thrive in tropical and subtropical climates with plenty of rainfall and sunlight. They prefer well-drained, fertile soil and grow best in warm temperatures. The tree's wood is highly valued for furniture, cabinetry, and flooring because of its durability and rich color. Mahogany is slow-growing, often taking decades to reach full maturity. These trees are also important in forests for their role in providing habitat for wildlife. However, over-harvesting of mahogany has made it a protected species in many areas.
