Black Tea Extract

Green tea leaf extracts contain 38.8% phenolics on a dry weight basis with catechins contributing over 85% of the total phenolics. Black tea extracts contain 24.4% phenolics of which 17% are catechins and 70% are condensed polyphenols (thearubigens) [91]. Black tea extract contains approximately 20–30% polyphenols [5]. Among them TR is the most abundant compound with about 10–19% on a w/w basis, which is equivalent to approximately 30–60% of the solids in a black tea infusion [5]. Black tea is a type of tea produced from the camellia sinensis plant that is highly oxidized, resulting in a dark reddish-gold hue, a hearty, slightly astringent flavor, and a moderate amount of caffeine.
