RFQ Specification Checklist for Better Supplier Responses
A supplier can only quote accurately when the RFQ defines the commercial and technical scope clearly enough.
Product specification
- Product name and intended application.
- Material, grade, size, dimensions, performance or model.
- Drawing, standard or reference specification where applicable.
Commercial scope
- Required quantity and unit.
- Target delivery location or port.
- Required-by date or production schedule.
- Sample, tooling, packaging or labeling requirements.
Quotation request
- Ask suppliers to state price and currency.
- Request MOQ, lead time, payment terms and quotation validity.
- Ask them to identify assumptions or exclusions.
Frequently asked questions
Should I publish a target price?
Only if it helps the sourcing process and you are comfortable doing so. It is not required for every RFQ.
Can I attach technical drawings?
Use the supported RFQ attachment workflow where available and avoid uploading confidential information unless appropriate protections are in place.
