A tail breaker is a specialized mechanical device used in rolling mills, specifically at the end of the hot rolling process to control the speed and tension of the emerging hot metal as it exits the final rolling stand. This device consists of a set of robust, mechanically or hydraulically operated pinch rolls that "break" or reduce the speed of the hot metal strip, bar, or wire rod before it is coiled or further processed. The tail breaker helps in maintaining a consistent tension and alignment of the product, reducing the risk of deformation or damage as it cools. Positioned at the critical transition point from the rolling stands to the cooling bed or coiling area, tail breakers are essential for ensuring product quality and efficient mill operations.
