A gear coupling is a mechanical device designed to transmit torque between two shafts that are not collinear. It consists of two flexible joints, one attached to each shaft. These joints are connected by a third shaft, known as a spindle. Each joint has a hub with external teeth that connect to a sleeve with internal teeth, allowing for a small amount of axial and angular misalignment between the connected shafts.
