Black Cardamom

Black cardamom is a spice in the Zingiberaceae (ginger) family similar to the more common green cardamom, though it has a smokier flavor. It is a native of the slopes of the Himalayas in Sikkim, India, and Nepal and is the oldest and most widely used spice in the world, often referred to as the “Queen of Spices”. cardamom, spice consisting of whole or ground dried fruits, or seeds, of Elettaria cardamomum, a herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). The seeds have a warm, slightly pungent, and highly aromatic flavour somewhat reminiscent of camphor. Black cardamom plays well with bitter, long-cooking greens like collards. It also elevates relatively bland lentil and rice dishes in an unsubtle but not overwhelming manner.
