Product overview

Rutile is a titanium dioxide mineral, notable for its high refractive index and brilliant luster. Typically found in shades of red, brown, and black, rutile often forms needle-like crystals within other minerals, creating unique inclusions known as "rutilated quartz." It is a major source of titanium, used extensively in producing strong, lightweight alloys for aerospace, medical implants, and pigments in paints and plastics. Rutile crystals can also be transparent and are sometimes used as gemstones. Its high refractivity and dispersion make it valuable in optical applications. Found in igneous and metamorphic rocks and sedimentary deposits, rutile is mined globally, with significant sources in Australia, South Africa, and the United States.
