Trisodium phosphate (TSP) is a white, crystalline solid with the chemical formula Na3PO4. It is highly soluble in water and produces an alkaline solution. TSP is widely used in various industrial and household applications, primarily as a cleaning agent, degreaser, and stain remover. In cleaning products, it effectively removes dirt, grease, and grime from surfaces such as walls, floors, and machinery. TSP is also utilized in the construction industry for surface preparation before painting or wallpapering, as it improves paint adhesion by removing residues and contaminants. In food processing, it serves as a pH buffer and emulsifier. While effective, TSP is known for its alkalinity and must be handled with care to prevent skin and eye irritation. Environmental regulations have prompted restrictions on its use in some regions due to concerns about phosphorus pollution.
