A surface steam condenser is an essential component in power plants and industrial processes, designed to condense steam from turbine exhaust into water. It typically consists of a large heat exchanger with multiple tubes or plates through which steam flows. The condenser’s primary function is to cool and condense steam using a separate cooling medium, usually water from a river or cooling tower, that circulates outside the tubes. The condensed steam, now in liquid form, is collected and often recycled back into the system. Surface steam condensers are crucial for maximizing turbine efficiency, reducing the energy required to pump water back into the boiler, and maintaining optimal system performance.
