In other words, it converts force, pressure, tension, compression, torque, weight, etc… into a change in electrical resistance, which can then be measured. Structurally, a load cell is made of a metallic body (i.e. flexure) to which strain gauges are bonded. A digital load cell outputs digital (numerical) data to an indicator using serial communication, such as the RS-485 standard, and a Modbus-RTU communication protocol. Load cells are sensors that detect force (mass, torque, etc.). When force is applied to a load cell, it converts the force into an electrical signal. Load cells are also known as "load transducers," because they convert a load (force) into electrical signals.
