Designer Chiffon Kurti

In modern usage, a short kurta is referred to as the kurti, which is the attire of females. However, traditionally, the term kurti refers to waist coats, jackets and blouses which sit above the waist without side slits, and are believed to have descended from the tunic of the Shunga period (2nd century B.C.). Kurtas are usually long, reaching to the calf, whereas Kurtis are usually short, which reaches to the waist or are hip length. Kurtas are often paired with pyjamas or churidars, whereas Kurtis are generally worn with jeans, palazzos or even patialas. The kurta is traditionally made of cotton or silk. It is worn plain or with embroidered decoration, such as chikan; and it can be loose or tight in the torso, typically falling either just above or somewhere below the knees of the wearer.
