How to Compare Supplier Quotations on TradesFolks

Updated 24 Aug 20268 min readBuyers & sourcing

The lowest quotation is not automatically the best commercial offer. Compare quotations on a like-for-like basis before choosing a supplier.

01

Normalize the quotations

  • Confirm each supplier is quoting the same specification, grade, quantity and packaging.
  • Separate unit price from tooling, sample, freight, tax or other charges.
  • Confirm quotation currency and validity period.
02

Compare commercial terms

  • MOQ and quantity breaks.
  • Production and dispatch lead time.
  • Payment milestones or supported payment methods.
  • Incoterm or shipping responsibility where relevant.
03

Compare supplier capability

  • Product experience and documentation.
  • Communication quality and response time.
  • Ability to meet inspection, labeling, packaging or destination requirements.
COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Should I compare only unit price?

No. Compare total commercial scope, specification, logistics, payment terms and supplier capability.

What if quotations use different currencies?

Preserve each quoted currency and compare using a clearly dated conversion reference if you need a common reporting currency.
