An oil-cooled fixed reactor is a type of chemical reactor where the fixed bed of catalyst is cooled by circulating oil. In this setup, reactants flow over a stationary catalyst bed inside the reactor vessel. The heat generated by the exothermic reactions is absorbed by the oil circulating through a jacket or coil surrounding the reactor. This cooling system maintains optimal reaction temperatures, preventing overheating and catalyst deactivation. The oil’s high thermal capacity allows for efficient heat removal and temperature control. This design is advantageous for processes with high heat generation or where precise temperature regulation is crucial. Oil-cooled fixed reactors are used in various industries, including petrochemical and chemical manufacturing, where stable operating conditions and consistent product quality are essential.
