Uniformly glabrous carapace and abdomen. Hepatic and antennal spines on the carapace but no orbital spine. Sigmoidal curved rostrum is armed with 7 or 8 dorsal and 5 or 6 ventral teeth. Telson with no lateral spine. The body is semi-translucent, with olive green to grey-blue speckles (Figure 5). The pereopods are generally the same colour as the body. Pleopods are pink or red and the distal part of the uropods green or red, with the fringe of setae usually red. Prawns vary in colour from a dark red to an orange-red or pink; juveniles are sometimes green or brown.
