A VRLA (Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid) battery is a type of lead-acid battery designed to be maintenance-free and safe. It features a sealed construction with valves that regulate the internal pressure, preventing electrolyte spillage and allowing for efficient gas recombination. VRLA batteries come in two main types: Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) and Gel, both of which use different methods to immobilize the electrolyte. AGM batteries use a fiberglass mat to absorb the electrolyte, while Gel batteries use a silica-based gel. Both types offer reliable performance, low self-discharge rates, and resistance to vibration. VRLA batteries are commonly used in UPS systems, telecommunications, and renewable energy systems due to their robustness and minimal maintenance requirements. Their sealed design also allows for flexible installation in various orientations.
