Potassium bromide acts as a sedative in veterinary medicine to calm anxious animals. In industry, it serves as a precursor for the synthesis of other bromine compounds and as a flame retardant. Despite its applications, prolonged exposure or ingestion can lead to toxicity, affecting the central nervous and gastrointestinal systems.
