It is primarily used in various industrial applications due to its unique properties. In the electronics industry, bismuth oxide serves as a component in ceramic capacitors and varistors, where its high dielectric constant and stability under high temperatures are advantageous. In the glass industry, it functions as a colorant to impart a yellow or red tint to glass products. Bismuth oxide is also utilized as a catalyst in organic synthesis and as a pigment in paints and cosmetics. Additionally, it finds application in the production of thermoelectric materials and in certain medical treatments. Proper handling precautions are necessary due to its toxicity and potential health hazards if ingested or inhaled in large quantities.
