Product overview

A bipolar transistor, or bipolar junction transistor (BJT), is a type of semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electrical signals. It consists of three layers of doped semiconductor material, forming two junctions: the emitter, base, and collector. There are two types of BJTs: NPN and PNP, distinguished by the arrangement of positive (P) and negative (N) regions.

In operation, a small current or voltage applied to the base controls a larger current flowing between the emitter and collector. The emitter emits carriers, the base is a thin region where carriers are controlled, and the collector collects the majority of carriers. BJTs are widely used in analog circuits due to their high current gain and ability to amplify weak signals. Common applications include audio amplifiers, oscillators, and signal processing. Despite newer technologies, BJTs remain essential in various electronic designs for their reliability and performance.
