An Anti-D 300 mg injection is used to prevent Rh sensitization in an Rh-negative mother, which can cause hemolytic disease of the newborn (rhesus disease) if the baby is Rh-positive. It works by neutralizing Rh-positive antigens that may enter the Rh-negative mother's blood, preventing her immune system from forming antibodies against the baby's blood. It is administered during pregnancy (around the 28th week), after delivery if the baby is Rh-positive, and after any instance of fetal-maternal bleeding such as miscarriage, abortion, or trauma. It is also used to prevent Rh sensitization in Rh-negative individuals who have received an incompatible transfusion of Rh-positive blood.
