Barley Seeds
The heads of the barley seeds are triangular spikes made up of rachis and three spikelets apiece. 20–60 grains are produced by each spike. Barley plants freely tiller and usually have one to six stems. Seed heads are not produced by the tillers. Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is a major cereal grain. Barley grain is a staple in Tibetan cuisine and is widely used as whole grain barley meal in the Middle East in soups and stews, porridges, and gruels and in barley bread and biscuits. It is also eaten in Eastern and Central Europe and Africa. It was one of the first cultivated grains; it was domesticated in the Fertile Crescent around 9000 BC, giving it nonshattering spikelets and making it much easier to harvest
